The Syracuse Police Department and the Syracuse University Public Security Department are investigate a series of recent burglaries in the off-campus neighborhood, DPS said in a campus-wide email Tuesday afternoon.
The DPS has had no reports of incidents of forced entry into this series of burglaries – the Suspected burglars entered the properties through unlocked doors and windows, according to the email.
The DPS encouraged students living in off-campus housing to lock all exterior doors and windows at all times and to secure their valuables.
DPS annual report, published on October 1 revealed that there were 16 times more burglaries on campus in 2020 than in 2019. South campus students have expressed concern for their safety in the face of the increase in burglaries and after several denunciations this semester.
